How Johnny Found Love Through Online Dating
Never in Johnny’s life had he ever imagined himself to be living in his own version of the American dream.
For years, he had been wandering aimlessly without so much as a goal in life. He had good grades, graduated college, and bagged himself a job that would keep him comfortable.
As grateful as Johnny was to have his life plans laid out for him, he never felt any sense of satisfaction for the things he achieved. He felt as though his entire life was in limbo.
Johnny was always grateful for the roof he had over his head and for the food on his table. He appreciated every little thing he was blessed with.
But now that he reached the peak of his career, he didn’t know how else he would spend the rest of his money and free time.
And so Johnny sought out to fill the empty space in his heart.
He tried finding a hobby at first. He started off with what he did best — playing the piano. Among all the other instruments he had in his house, the piano never failed to provide solemn comfort when he’s had a rough day.
It started out to be extremely satisfying at first. But eventually he lost interest.
Despite being encouraged by his parents to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a musician, the wick had long been extinguished and so he moved on to the next.
Johnny began to volunteer for charities. He started working with an amazing and generous team whose sole vision was to educate children living in far-flung areas.
He traveled from country to country and had the time of his life exploring and learning about different cultures. Eventually, he went back home and allowed himself a moment of recluse.
While looking for inspiration for the next big thing to do, Johnny watched countless Youtube videos. A recommendation came and the title was interesting so he clicked it.
From there, he learned about the tarsiers, the colorful festivals, the ever beloved grilled pork, and even about the first ever national hero Lapu Lapu!
The Philippines was this whole melting pot of various cultures. What amazed him even more was that even though they live in different groups of islands, they had what they called the “Bayanihan spirit” or being one with the community.
Johnny was then sucked into a rabbit hole of Filipino content. One article in particular stood out to him — Communication Differences Between Eastern and Western Cultures.
It was a good read, but what really caught him off guard was that it came from a dating site.
He couldn’t believe it at first.
A dating site of all places. Given, he hadn’t explored the online dating scene as much, he was very much aware of its reputation among people his age.
Others had strong opinions about dating sites, claiming that they were out to get you. Johnny thought otherwise.
He empathized with these women and shared their lament of filling the loneliness in their hearts. These were actual women behind the screens. Women with wit, women with sorrows, and women with life experiences.
These ladies were putting themselves out there in the name of love.
With that said, Johnny decided to give the site a chance.
Feeling brave and curious, Johnny signed up and reviewed all the profiles. There were no hidden charges nor was he asked for his credit card number. He was free to browse as he wished.
Either way, if this site did prove to be bogus, he would be notified by the bank of any suspicious transactions.
A bright orange hue stopped him in his scrolling tracks. The woman in the picture seemed pretty enough and, without hesitation, Johnny clicked on her profile.
Angela.
She seemed interesting enough.
Soon enough, they started dating.
Johnny was glad to have taken a leap of faith. Everything went well with Angela. He registered himself on one of the Asian Tours offered through the website, counting down the days until he would finally meet Angela.
From hotel accommodations to airport pick-up, the tour package was packed with everything he needed for the trip. In fact, he didn’t have to go through all the hassle of planning his itinerary.
All plans were laid out for him. All that was left was to wait for the nightfall.
The search for Cinderella
As soon as the event started, Johnny began his search for Angela. They messaged each other beforehand. She told him she was wearing orange, her favorite color.
After going through the embarrassment of approaching the wrong woman, his eyes finally landed on a petite-looking Filipina who was standing by the doorway.
It was her.
The matchmaker led her to Johnny. They finally met in person.
Angela and Johnny spent time talking about their shared interests and what went on with their lives. Angela was exactly the same through chat — bashful, sweet, and intelligent..
Johnny was initially nervous and thought that maybe he didn’t meet Angela’s expectations. But all those negative thoughts were quickly forgotten the moment Angela kissed him on the cheek.
The feeling was mutual!
Life goes on
And Johnny couldn’t be happier than he is right now.
He has a wife by his side who is carrying his child. He found the missing piece to the puzzle.
This is exactly what he was looking for: self-fulfillment.
For the first time in his life, Johnny felt a sense of meaningful accomplishment. He and Angela managed to breeze over their relationship challenges, such as starting out long-distance, and deciding where to live when they settle down.
His little spur-of-the-moment decision turned out to be the best decision he ever made in his life. Waking up to the sight of his wife makes the man feel blessed to have such a good life.
